Childrens Program

6 Reasons Why Your Child Should Practice Martial Arts

Reason #1: They Will Get More Active

The reason kids should do martial arts is to get active and moving. In case you haven’t noticed, we have an epidemic when it comes to our nation’s obesity problem. We’re also increasingly unfit in addition to being overweight. The problem is particularly alarming as it relates to our kids. Youth sports and physical education programs are great, but not every kid is an athlete and many schools no longer offer PE. The martial arts offer many benefits, but when it comes to fitness, becoming a true martial artist means becoming a supremely fit person. Martial arts can help your child get fit and healthy.

Indeed, nothing is more essential to the success of how we move our body than tapping into the life force of our essence - our breath. Ask a professional athlete, or an actor, dancer, or signer, and they will tell you that to succeed in any physical craft is to access your breath correctly.

This skill can literally save your life. In the martial arts your kid will learn the essence of how to breathe and even relax under pressure.

Reason #2: They’ll Learn  Focus and Discipline.

Of the many challenges that parents face today, one is that we are constantly plugged in. While there are a great many benefits to the Internet, there are many more benefits in stillness and silence. Unfortunately stillness and silence seem to be rare to find. At some juncture in life, every one of us comes to learn that the greatest obstacle we face in this lifetime is ourselves. That battle is fought in the stillness of our hearts and the willingness to confront ourselves. As a martial artist, your child will learn what it is to be still, challenged, and focused.

Reason #3: They’ll Learn How to Take Hits

In the martial arts, your child will learn what it is to take a hit, whether that hit is a literal blow or a disappointment like failing a test.Part of life is learning that we all take hits. The key is in learning how best to take that hit and get back up. Unfortunately, this lesson seems to be lost on many in our every-kid-gets-a-trophy culture. In the martial arts, your kid will learn to fail - a lot. Half of martial arts is hitting, but half is also getting hit.

Ironically, learning how to take a hit is perhaps the best way for your kid to learn how to avoid it.

Reason #4: They’ll Gain Self Confidence and Self Respect

We will teach your child that there are no tough guys. Every martial artist ultimately learns this sense of respect and true confidence. Your child will learn that confidence and respect for others comes from a deep sense of self-knowledge.

Reason #5: They’ll Connect Their Mind and Body

A martial artist is taught to see, feel, and listen - both internally and externally. Tapping into intuition, fear, and courage are examples of being able to put the physical together with the mental. How often have we heard the phrase “being paralyzed with fear”? Being able to combat such a thing is what you learn in the martial arts.

Reason #6: They’ll Learn Conflict Resolution

In the martial arts, you learn that there is no such thing as “fighting” words. Instead, you learn to respond without reacting in the martial arts.

Kickboxing Program

The 3 Core Elements Of Kickboxing

#1. The first core element of Kickboxing is Boxing. This is where you are turning your fists and your forearms into weapons and shields. Thus, you are using your fists to generate force and impact in order to create injury to your opponent. Boxing is exceptionally natural. It should feel intuitive to strike with your hands. This is the reason why we almost always start beginners off with Boxing right away.

#2. Kicking – the next element in Kickboxing. Kicking is where you are using your feet and your shins as spears and swords. Common kicks are Foot Jabs, Side Kicks, Hook Kicks and Heel Hook Kicks. Note that the fighting stance is different for Kicking than for Boxing. For Kicking, your fighting stance will have you leaning back more so you can reach and extend with your legs. This is in opposition to the fighting stance for Boxing where you’ll be leaning forward more so you’ll have more power for your punches.

#3. Kickboxing. The third and final aspect of Kickboxing is combining your kicks with your punches in a smooth, eloquent manner so that your punches set up your kicks and your kicks set up your punches. Most people who attempt Kickboxing will strike only with their fists, more around a bit; and then strike only with their feet. They’re kicking and then they are boxing – they’re not Kickboxing. It takes time and patience to master the ability to combine your kicks with your punches in a fluid, seamless manner; but, stick with it and you’ll be kicking and punching like Chuck Norris in no time!

Korean Hapkido

Hapkido

Hapkido is a system of unarmed fighting and weapons techniques to defeat both armed and unarmed opponents. Hapkido contains both long and close range fighting techniques, utilizing specialized Hapkido kicks and percussive hand strikes at longer ranges and pressure point strikes, Hapkido joint locks, and or throws at closer fighting distances. Hapkido emphasizes circular motion, breathing techniques, non-resisting movements, and control of the opponent. Hapkido practitioners seek to gain advantage through footwork and body positioning to employ leverage, avoiding the use of strength against strength.

As a Hapkido student advances through their studies they will learn how to employ and defend against various weapons. Weapons training usually consists of knife training, short stick, walking cane, rope, long staff and sword. Hapkido students are trained to use and defend against these weapons and to also defend against common weapons such are firearms, broken bottles etc…

Hapkido has long been popular with various special operations military and police organizations throughout the world because it provides both lethal and controlling Hapkido techniques so that an individual can employ only the amount of force needed for the situation. In Korea, the Presidential bodyguards and the Seoul Police SWAT Teams all train in Korea Hapkido Federation style Hapkido.”
